Exclusive: Sequel To Stephen King’s IT Book in the Works; Could We Be Getting A Third IT Movie?

Back in September of 1986, Stephen King released the iconic “IT” book. IT was his 22nd book, and his 17th novel written under his own name. The story follows the experiences of seven children as they are terrorized by an evil entity that exploits the fears of its victims to disguise itself while hunting its prey. “It” primarily appears in the form of Pennywise the Dancing Clown to attract its preferred prey of young children.

I have learned that Stephen King is working on a sequel to his IT book. Not much is known about this IT sequel, outside of that it is definitely set in the same world(s?) as Stephen King’s other books. It will have a heavy focus on drugs, which makes sense seeing as how the IT movie sequel also heavily focused on drugs. As some of you already know, King has hinted several times at It’s return:

  • In Tommyknockers, it is mentioned that someone sees a clown in a storm drain. Tommyknockers takes place 2 years after the Losers take on It for the last time.
  • Later on in Insomnia, there is a brief mention of Ralph Roberts, the main character of the book, seeing an aura coming from a storm drain.
  • Finally, in Dreamcatcher, there is a statue in Derry graffitied with “PENNYWISE LIVES”.

As mentioned before, IT has also been adapted into a movie franchise. The series consists of two films. The first installment was the film It, released in 2017 by Warner Bros. Pictures. The franchise centers around a group of seven children living in Derry, Maine, who are terrorized by an eponymous being only to face their own personal demons in the process. This being returns to haunt the children every 27 years. The second installment, It Chapter Two follows the group 27 years after the events of the first installment. A second IT book might imply we will probably be getting a third IT movie.
