EDIT: Director James Gunn has confirmed on Twitter that this is not true. We did not mean to spread misinformation about the project, we apologise.
HBO Max’s Peacemaker series is set to have a broadcast run on The CW network.
While the distribution model of the series is currently unknown, its likely that Peacemaker will air on broadcast during its first run window. Following this model of distribution, the full season would be available on HBO Max at release, with episodes also being aired weekly on The CW.
HBO Max is set to explore the origins of the Peacemaker character, the master of weapons from the upcoming The Suicide Squad film, in the new Max Original action-adventure-comedy series Peacemaker. HBO Max has given a straight-to-series order of eight episodes for the first season of the show.
The Peacemaker is a man who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it. The series will extend the world that Gunn is creating for The Suicide Squad movie, which is scheduled to be released in theaters by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 6, 2021.
John Cena will reprise his role as the Peacemaker, with Danielle Brooks being set to play Leota Adebayo, along with Robert Patrick as Auggie Smith, Jennifer Holland, who will reprise her role of Emilia Harcourt from The Suicide Squad film, and Chris Conrad as Vigilante/Adrian Chase. Chukwudi Iwuji is set to play Clemson Murn, with Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon, Annie Chang as Detective Sophie Song, Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke, and Steve Agee as John Economos.
James Gunn is set to write the Peacemaker series and direct the first two episodes, with Gunn, Matt Miller, and The Suicide Squad producer Peter Safran serving as executive producers of the series and Cena as co-executive producer. We revealed last week that the series is planned to have multiple seasons. Peacemaker is scheduled to begin production in early 2021, prior to Gunn beginning work on the next Guardians of the Galaxy film.
