DC’s Titans

Titans is a superhero television series created by Greg Walker, Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti. The current cast consists of Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, Conor Leslie, Minka Kelly, Alan Ritchson, Joshua Orpin, Savannah Welch, and Jay Lycurgo. The series is based on the Teen Titans comics, most notably writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Pérez’s “New Teen Titans” comics and Geoff Johns Teen Titans run that started in 2003.

The idea was to take the, you know, Perez-Wolfman comics and really.. We live in a world where there has been 25-30 years of superhero movies since then. The world has changed. We wanted to put this in a really psychologically and emotionally grounded universe.

Showrunner Greg Walker

The TV show premiered on October 12, 2018. The first and second seasons were released on DC Universe; a third season has also been announced, which will be released on HBO Max. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season.

Production on Titans season 3 began on October 14, 2020, in Toronto and will wrap up in June. No premiere date has been set yet, though the season is expected to premiere in August.

Seasons 1 and 2 are now available to be watched on HBO Max in the United States and Netflix internationally.

The series follows the young superheroes of the eponymous team as they combat evil and other perils. Disbanded when the story begins, the series sees the team return when the original and new members reform the Titans. The team fights crime throughout various locations, including Detroit and San Francisco.

In the first season, Rachel comes to Dick for protection from dangerous forces pursuing her, which leads to them meeting and teaming up with Kory and Gar. The heroes eventually learn that Rachel is being targeted by her demon father Trigon, who seeks to enslave the world. The season also depicts Dick’s efforts to distance himself from his mentor and his Robin persona, while Kory struggles with a bout of amnesia that leaves her unaware of her true identity.

The second season focuses on the official reformation of the team as Dick leads a new team composed of Rachel, Gar, and Jason. The Titans’ return, however, leads to the reemergence of feared assassin Deathstroke, whose prior conflict with the original team caused their disbanding. As Deathstroke attempts to eliminate the heroes, the original Titans are forced to face him again, while other threats emerge from the malevolent Cadmus Laboratories and Kory’s sister Blackfire.

In October 2020, HBO Max revealed a special first look at Curran Walters’ Red Hood, who is set to appear in season 3 of the show. The suit is the first image seen of Jason Todd’s “Red Hood” persona, after his stint as the new Robin in seasons 1 and 2. This will be the first time the individual Red Hood costume has ever been seen in a live-action production. The costume was created by costume designer Laura Jean (“LJ”) Shannon.

A month later, HBO Max revealed the new super-suit of Anna Diop’s Starfire. Created by costume designer Laura Jean Shannon, the suit follows the previously announced “Red Hood” costume reveal. With Diop playing the first-ever live-action Starfire, Shannon’s latest super-suit represents the first-ever physical suit created for the character.

It was announced in January that actress Savannah Welch will be playing Barbara Gordon on Titans.  In Season 3, Gordon is the GCPD’s Commissioner and uses a wheelchair, because she was shot and paralyzed by the Joker. She has a combative relationship with Bruce Wayne. Her life gets more complicated when Dick returns to Gotham, rekindling their old romance and starting a new crime-fighting partnership.

Roughly a week after the Barbara Gordon report, we learned that The Batman actor Jay Lycurgo is going to play Tim Drake in Titans season 3. This announcement was made after several exclusive reports from The Vulcan Reporter about the character. We revealed back in August that a Teen Titans spin-off was in development, and that Tim Drake, who will be introduced in season 3, is set to lead the team.

HBO Max revealed on the 25th of February what the super-suit for of new highly anticipated character Blackfire (played by Damaris Lewis) looks like. This costume was also created by costume designer Laura Jean Shannon. This announcement follows the previously revealed Starfire and Red Hood costumes. Lewis plays the first-ever live-action “Blackfire” and was introduced to fans at the end of season two.

It was revealed on the 28th of April that actor Vincent Kartheiser will be playing Scarecrow in Titans. Vincent Kartheiser is known for playing Connor on The WB’s Angel and Pete Campbell on AMC’s Mad Men. When we first meet Kartheiser’s Scarecrow in Titans, he will be seen as an inmate of Arkham Asylum who will be offering to consult for the GCPD. The official Titans Twitter account has confirmed the news. You can view the tweet below:

Earlier today, director Boris Mojsovski revealed on Instagram that the season finale will be filmed next. Titans season 3 is currently still set to finish production on June 17. Additionally, we will be getting a trailer “soon.” This is presumably implying that we will be getting a Titans trailer on the Warner Upfronts event that takes place on the 19th of May.

We previously learned that the first three episodes of the season were set to be released at the same time on the 15th of July. While we are uncertain if this is still the case with the new release date, it is doubtful that this has been changed  HBO Max frequently uses this release schedule for their originals, as this is also how Doom Patrol season 2 was released. The other episodes will be released weekly, leading up to the season finale which will be released on the 21st of October, 2021.

While it is currently unknown when season 3 will be released on Netflix, a safe assumption would be somewhere in February 2022, based on when previous seasons were released on the platform.
