While Titans season 3 is barely halfway through production, we already know a lot about the upcoming season. A week or so ago, an interesting discovery was made by a fan regarding the third season of the DCTV show.

Set Trailer News Revealed
On the 7th of December, Twitter user Andrewsacademy4 found the set of Titans Season 3 set and discovered that there were several trailers present with familiar and unfamiliar names on them. These names include:
- The Joker
- Justin Cole
The Vulcan Reporter can confirm that this claim is legitimate. Furthermore, these were not the only trailers for actors/characters that were present on-set. I’ve heard that Beast Boy actor Ryan Potter was also filming at the time, for example.
@TOFilming_EM there were trucks at U of T today. Character names included The Joker, Justin Cole, Analiese, Dawn and Todd.

If you have been watching Titans, you most likely recognize the characters of “Dawn,” “Todd” and even “The Joker.” Naturally, Dawn refers to the character of Dawn Granger, also known as Dove. Todd is Jason Todd’s surname, with Jason Todd playing Robin in the first two seasons and Red Hood in Titans season 3.
While fans recognize names like Dawn and Todd, “Analiese” and “Justin Cole” you most likely have not heard of before. In this article, I will explain who these characters are and go more in-depth about The Joker’s role in Titans season 3, as implied by the trailer that was spotted on-set. You can view the original tweet below:
Who are Annaliese and Justin Cole?
Analiese (spelled Annaliese) is not a new character, but the name of someone who works on Titans. This person is a cast liaison on the series.
Justin Cole is a character who appears in the upcoming third season, and you have seen him before. Justin Cole, played by McKinley Freeman, previously appeared in the 11th episode of season 2, titled “E.L._.O.” Justin Cole appears when a drunk Kory picks up Justin and goes back to her hotel suite. Justin is a psychiatrist and as they kiss, he states that he thinks Kory is using him to escape her issues. He suggests that Kory talks to him about her issues, as he’s a professional, but Kory walks away from him. Kory tells Justin that he should go, and while he objects, he eventually agrees to do so.
As you have most likely realized by now, Freeman’s Justin Cole did not exactly have a big role in the series. He wasn’t even credited in the episode as Justin Cole, but as “Psychiatrist!” I’m not sure how many fans a character like Justin Cole has, but those fans will be happy to hear that the character will be returning in Titans season 3. This news was previously revealed by me on Twitter, and now seemingly confirmed.
Is Joker in Titans Season 3?
“The Joker” is another name that was mentioned in the tweet by Andrewsacademy4. This should not really surprise any Titans fans, as it is quite well known that Titans season 3 will be covering Jason Todd’s transformation from Robin to Red Hood. Naturally, a Red Hood origin story has to include the Joker in some capacity.
The Joker is a supervillain created by Bill Finger, Bob Kane, and Jerry Robinson who first appeared in the debut issue of the comic book Batman (April 25, 1940), published by DC Comics. A homicidal artist and an agent of chaos, the Joker first appeared in Gotham City around the same time that the Batman arrived on the scene. While Batman represents justice and order, the Joker is his complete opposite. The Joker’s psychosis causes his personality to shift between goofy prankster and mass murderer on a dime, making it impossible to predict his next move.
The Joker previously appeared in the season 1 finale of Titans, titled “Dick Grayson.” Most of the season 1 finale took place in an alternate reality created by Trigon, as a way to trick Dick Grayson into joining him. In the alternate reality, Commissioner Gordon was killed in a brutal, sadistic fashion by the Joker. Bruce was about to cross the line by killing Joker in an act of revenge, though Dick was there as the only one who could save Batman and stop him from destroying everything. Unfortunately, Dick was too late in trying to stop Batman from breaking his rule and killing Joker. Not only did Batman try to kill the Joker once, he actually came back to finish the job when the Joker survived the first attempt.
This was the extent of Joker’s appearance in Titans so far. Keep in mind that all of that took place in an alternate reality, meaning that none of it actually happened in the main reality that the show follows. The Joker is still alive after Titans season 2, and you will be seeing him in Titans season 3. Though I recommend not expecting to see much of the Clown Prince of Crime, as I’ve heard that his appearance in Titans season 3 is quite short.
What Else Can We Expect To See in Titans Season 3?
Tim Drake is set to be introduced in the third season of the series. It is currently unknown which actor will be playing the third Robin, though I have learned that an actor has in fact been cast for the role, and he is biracial. A recent casting call implies that the series was looking for an African-American actor aged 18 or older to play the character. Tim Drake is set to be 16-17 years old and was described as a youth who grew up on the wrong side of the tracks but never lost his belief in heroism. His laid-back persona is balanced by a near-genius intellect. He has innate detective skills with a perception of detail that is way beyond his years. Despite his rough upbringing, he’s motivated by the opportunity to do good in the world instead of dwelling on the pain and tragedy. Depending on how fans react to the character, Tim Drake could be leaving the series after Titans season 3 to lead his own Teen Titans spin-off series, as I previously reported.
Barbara Gordon will be joining the series. When we meet Barbara in season 3, the former Batgirl will be serving as the commissioner of the Gotham City Police Department (like father, like daughter). Although she has a past relationship with Dick Grayson, she is wary of the Titans now being in Gotham.
Scarecrow will also be seen in Titans season 3. The fear-toxin-loving Scarecrow, also known as Dr. Jonathan Crane, is an inmate at Arkham Asylum but moonlights as a profiler for the GCPD. Scarecrow is very different from past versions of the character. I have been told that this version is, specifically, very different from Christopher Nolan’s Scarecrow, portrayed by Cillian Murphy. It has been suggested that this version of the character is supposed to give off a Hannibal Lecter vibe. A new Batcave has been created for Titans season 3. It is a complete overhaul of the previous Batcave that we saw in the season 1 finale, though I have heard it looks much better.
Kory is set to wear several different costumes throughout the season. I’ve been told that they’re setting Damaris Lewis’ Blackfire up to be the main antagonist of the second half of the season, with her being far more powerful than her sister. She’s able to use her powers in ways that Starfire has never been capable of doing. Fortunately, Kory will gradually be mastering her own powers throughout the season until she’s ultimately able to defeat Blackfire.
You can expect Gar to transform into other animals in Titans season 3! Not only will you be seeing Beast Boy turn into more animals, but the VFX artists have also been working on revamping Gar’s tiger transformation. A new 3D model of a tiger is currently being developed. Furthermore, Gar will be getting a new costume. This won’t just be different clothing though, it will be a superhero suit! Gar’s supersuit was described to me as a streamlined version of his current outfit. Unlike his previous hoodie, this new costume is more of a motorcycle jacket. It looks like a mix of the two superhero suits you can view below. It also includes a logo of a green tiger paw on his left chest area.
Donna Troy will be returning to the series. The way her storyline is written is very flexible, allowing the writers to place her resurrection storyline wherever it fits best. Wondergirl actress Conor Leslie is set to film scenes that are intended for the last few episodes of season 3, though she could very well only make an appearance in the post-credit scene of the finale. If the coronavirus shutdown restrictions continue to get worse, they could bring Donna Troy back to life in the middle of the season. They might even delay her resurrection until the premiere episode of the fourth season if necessary, though this seems unlikely. Leslie is currently set to join the production within the next week, after which she will be undergoing quarantine. She will be filming scenes until the end of production.
Titans hails from showrunner Greg Walker and producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti. The current cast consists of Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, Conor Leslie, Minka Kelly, Alan Ritchson, Chelsea Zhang, and Joshua Orpin. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season. Production on Titans season 3 began on October 14, 2020, in Toronto and will wrap up next June. Episodes 1, 2, 3, and 4 have finished production, with episode 5 currently being filmed in Hamilton, Ontario. The cast will be taking a Christmas break soon, with filming set to pick back up in 2021. No premiere date has been set.
Seasons 1 and 2 are now available to be watched on HBO Max in the United States and Netflix internationally.
