Jack Black Set To Voice Claptrap in Eli Roth’s ‘Borderlands’ Film

Actor Jack Black will be voicing the character of Claptrap for the upcoming Borderlands movie.

Claptrap is a general purpose robot manufactured by Hyperion. It has been programmed with an overenthusiastic personality, and brags frequently, yet also expresses severe loneliness and cowardice. Claptrap is a persistently sarcastic robot that isn’t all that invested in the survival of his teammate.

This is what director Eli Roth had to say about the casting:

I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth. Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen.

Chernobyl’s Craig Mazin penned the script, with Eli Roth directing. The cast currently includes; Cate Blanchett as the main protagonist Lilith, Kevin Hart as a skilled soldier named Roland, and Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, an archeologist working on Pandora. Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Erik Feig are producing, with Gearbox Entertainment’s Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick executive producing.

The Borderlands videogames are a series of action role-playing first-person shooters set in a space-western science-fantasy setting, created by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games for multiple platforms. The upcoming film is set in the distant future when four “vault hunters” travel to the distant planet Pandora to hunt down an alien vault rumored to contain advanced technology.
