‘Chucky’ Season 1 Set To Start Production in March 2021

SyFy’s Chucky series is currently set to start production in March.

SyFy’s Chucky series is currently set to start production in March.

After a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies and allies from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

Back in July of 2020, showrunner Don Mancini released the first teaser of the series. You can view it below:

Chucky is based on the Child’s Play horror slasher franchise created by Don Mancini. The franchise mainly consists of films that focus on Chucky, a notorious serial killer who frequently escapes death by performing a voodoo ritual to transfer his soul into a “Good Guys” doll. The original film, Child’s Play, was released on November 9, 1988. The film has spawned 5 other Chucky movies, a remake, comic books, a video game, tie-in merchandise, and the upcoming television series.

This is what Chucky himself had to say about the upcoming series:

In these troubled times, I believe it’s my obligation as a horror icon to reach the widest possible audience, on TV. For over thirty years, I’ve been scaring the sh*t out of you. But now at SYFY, I look forward to really making a difference.

Don Mancini will be running the series, with David Kirschner and Nick Antosca executive producing alongside Mancini. Mancini wrote the pilot, which he will also be directing. Brad Dourif is set to return to the franchise to voice Chucky in the upcoming SyFy series. Actress Jennifer Tilly has confirmed she will be appearing in the series. The show will share continuity with the original film series, as it is a continuation of that story.

Production on Chucky will begin on March 29, with it currently set to wrap up on the 11th of August.
