HBO’s Casey Bloys Gives Promising Update on Season 2 of ‘Lovecraft Country’

HBO Chief Content Officer Casey Bloys sat down with Deadline to talk about a potential second season of their Lovecraft Country series.

Lovecraft Country is a horror drama television series developed by Misha Green. Starring Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors, the series is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Matt Ruff. Seeing as how the first season of the series has already fully gone through the source material, Green and her team will now need to figure out on their own where they want to take these characters next, if a second season will ever be made. This is what HBO’s Casey Bloys had to say regarding the matter:

Misha is working with a small team of writers and they’re coming up with a take. She had a book to go on in the first season, she and the writers wanted to go off and take some time to go out and figure out without a book with these characters, what’s the journey we want to go on. We all want to be sure she’s got a story to tell. That’s where she is right now, working on those ideas. I’m very hopeful, as is Mischa, so we’re giving them the time to work.

Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman as he joins up with his friend Letitia and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father. This begins a struggle to survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback. The series premiered on August 16, 2020.

The series is now available to be watched on HBO.
