It was announced during Wizards of the Coast’s Magic Showcase 2021 stream that Routh will voice the character Gideon Jura. It was previously announced that the show expands on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are the game’s magic-wielding heroes and villains.
Additionally, it was revealed that a prequel novel is in the works that will be released in conjunction with the series, which is slated to debut in 2022. The novel is being written by Django Wexler and follows Planeswalkers Gideon Jura and Jace Beleren adventuring together as they right wrongs across the multiverse. But with very different insights into what they witness, it is safe to say that the partnership is under quite a bit of strain.
Brandon Routh is an American film and television actor. In 2006, he played Superman in the film Superman Returns. He also had a recurring role in the NBC series Chuck, as Daniel Shaw. Following this, he had supporting roles in the films Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. In 2014, he was cast in a recurring role as Ray Palmer / The Atom in DC’s Arrowverse.
As early as 2001, a Magic: The Gathering television series was considered by Wizards of the Coast, in the form of a miniseries. In 2008, those plans were shelved when an agreement was struck with Universal Studios for a Magic: The Gathering movie. However, neither this movie, nor any subsequent attempts at adaptations, led to concrete products.
The “Magic: The Gathering” animated series was first announced in 2019. The Russo Brothers were originally attached to oversee the series, but it was recently reported that they had exited the series. Jeff Kline is now leading the show’s creative team.
Kline’s new team includes: Steve Melching, who will co-executive produce and serve as story editor, supervising director Audu Paden and writers Nicole Dubuc, Russell Sommer, Dan Frey and Taneka Stotts. Izzy Medrano will serve as art director, and the animation will be done by Snowball Studios, replacing Bardel Entertainment.
The series is set to expand on the stories of the Planeswalkers, which are Magic’s unique magic-wielding heroes and villains as they contend with stakes larger than any one world can hold.
Magic: The Gathering, also Magic or MTG, is a strategy card game created by Richard Garfield in 1993, and published by Wizards of the Coast. Magic holds the title of “Most Played Trading Card Game.” Within the game of Magic, each player takes the role of a planeswalker, a powerful, magic-wielding being. The game is commonly played with two players, but can be played with more. Each player uses their own deck, which may be constructed from cards they previously owned, or from a limited pool of cards at an event. There are several ways of winning the game, the most common being reducing your opponent to 0 life, from a starting total of 20. There are currently more than 20,000 unique Magic cards, to which hundreds are added each year.
