A spin-off series of The Batman is in development at HBO Max, following the character of Penguin.
According to Variety, the project is in early stages of development and is being executive produced by The Batman’s Matt Reeves and Dylan Clark. It will be produced through Reeves’ 6th and Idaho production company, Clark’s Dylan Clark Productions, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Television.
The series has been described as a “Scarface-like” series about the rise of the Penguin character. According to sources, Farrell has been approached to star in the spinoff series but no deal is currently in place. Sources also say that Lauren LeFranc is attached to write the script for the project, which is in its very early stages.
Oswald Cobblepot is The Penguin, a ruthless Gotham City mobster who frequently finds himself an enemy of Batman. The Penguin is set to appear in the upcoming The Batman film starring Robert Pattinson. The character is set to be played by True Detective’s Colin Farrell.
