‘The Sandman’ at Netflix Casts Cassie Clare as Mazikeen

Per DCTV.news, Netflix’s The Sandman series has cast actress Cassie Clare as Mazikeen.

In the comics, Mazikeen of the Lilim is a powerful demon and the consort of Lucifer Morningstar. Originally scarred and unable to speak except in garbled sentences, she was healed by Jill Presto, much to her annoyance. She hides half of her face that used to be demonic out of shame that it isn’t anymore.

The Sandman won’t be the first time the character has gotten a live-action Netflix adaptation, as Mazikeen also appeared in the FOX/Netflix Lucifer series. In the series, Mazikeen of the Lilim, also known by her nickname Maze, is a demon from Hell who holds the form of a woman. For millennia, she worked under Lucifer as one of his most trusted lieutenants and servants; he considered her his “right-hand.” She is the best friend and former lover of Lucifer and formerly worked alongside him at the Lux nightclub in Los Angeles before starting a new career as a bounty hunter with the LAPD.

Cassie Clare was born in London, and is known for her work on The Bisexual and Delicious. She has also worked as a Model for fashion campaigns.

A rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven, The Sandman follows the people and places affected by Morpheus, the Dream King, as he mends the cosmic–and human–mistakes he’s made during his vast existence. The Sandman was picked up to series by Netflix back in 2019. According to comic creator Neil Gaiman, The Sandman series will be taking place in the modern-day. Gaiman promised fans in a Reddit AMA that the series will be faithful to the comics. On Twitter, Gaiman stated that the first season will have 11 episodes.

The Sandman series is based on a comic book written by Neil Gaiman of the same name. The main character of The Sandman is Dream, also known as Morpheus, who is one of the seven Endless. The other Endless are Destiny, Death, Desire, Despair, Delirium (formerly Delight), and Destruction. The series is famous for Gaiman’s trademark use of anthropomorphic personification of various metaphysical entities, while also blending mythology and history in its horror setting within the DC Universe. The Sandman is a story about stories and how Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, is captured and subsequently learns that sometimes change is inevitable.

The Sandman has been filming since October 15th of 2020. The first season is currently set to debut in 2021.
