‘Titans’ Casts Savannah Welch as Barbara Gordon in Season 3

According to Variety, HBO Max’s Titans has found its Barbara Gordon. Actress Savannah Welch will be playing the character in the upcoming third season of Titans.

In Season 3, Gordon is Gotham City Police Commissioner. Uses a wheelchair. She used to be Batgirl until she was shot and paralyzed by the Joker. She has a combative relationship with Bruce Wayne. Her life gets more complicated when Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) returns to Gotham, rekindling their old romance and starting a new crime fighting partnership.

Savannah Welch herself is an amputee, as she lost one of her legs after an accident back in 2016. She is known for her roles in projects such as Boyhood, Six and Tree of Life. While the casting has only recently been announced, Welch has been spotted on the set of Titans before. The actress has spent the last few months filming her scenes for the series.

Other characters that will be joining the series in the upcoming third season are Scarecrow and Tim Drake. While the casting behind both these characters are being kept under wraps, we can confirm that the production has found actors for both of these roles. A casting call discovered by The Illuminerdi back in March of 2020 reveals that Warner Bros was originally eyeing South-East Asian actors aged 18 or older to play Tim Drake. This has since changed, as I reported back in October that the production was searching for an African-American actor to play the role. I’ve since learned that an actor has been found for the role, and he is biracial. No scenes for Tim Drake have been filmed yet, though that will change very soon.

Titans hails from showrunner Greg Walker and producers Akiva Goldsman, Geoff Johns, and Greg Berlanti. The current cast consists of Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Curran Walters, Conor Leslie, Minka Kelly, Alan Ritchson, and Joshua Orpin. The series has already been renewed for a fourth season. Production on Titans season 3 began on October 14, 2020, in Toronto and will wrap up next June. No premiere date has been set yet, though the season is expected to premiere in July.

Seasons 1 and 2 are now available to be watched on HBO Max in the United States and Netflix internationally.
